At Far From The Norm, engagement is at the heart of everything we do.

Alongside our productions and touring, we deliver responsive education and professional development programmes that empower young people, artists, educators, and communities through Hip Hop dance theatre.

Our intensives open up Far From The Norm’s creative practice, offering artists the opportunity to engage deeply with our training methods, processes, and artistic learnings. Designed to challenge and inspire, these immersive experiences support participants in developing both their creative voice and performance practice.

We also deliver our annual artist development programme, NORMGROUND a dedicated space for a smaller cohort of UK and EU-based artists seeking a more focused and in-depth experience with the company. Through mentorship, creative exploration, training, and critical dialogue, artists gain insight into our artistic approach while building the tools, confidence, and resilience needed to sustain a career in the creative industries in the current climate.

Our work spans schools, studios, theatres, festivals, and community spaces across the UK and internationally, creating meaningful opportunities for expression, collaboration, and growth.

Alongside community and artist development work, Far From The Norm believes participation in the arts at school can improve wellbeing, inspire self-expression and create social change.

In partnerships with schools, cultural education partnerships, local councils and arts organisations, Far From The Norm also curates and delivers creative intervention programmes targeting young people at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.

Rooted in the autobiographical and socially engaged nature of Far From The Norm’s artistic practice, we invite young people to explore what matters to them, identify a shared social or cultural issue often overlooked in family settings or education systems, and respond to these themes through Hip Hop dance.

Using FFTN’s distinctive choreographic process, participants collaboratively generate movement material drawn from lived experience and collective storytelling. To date, these projects have resulted in short films led by longstanding Far From The Norm collaborators and dance artists.
