NORMGROUND is Far From The Norm’s flagship performer development programme for artists who work at the intersection of Hip Hop and Contemporary dance.
With an emphasis on building performers as collaborators, by removing performance outcomes, NORMGROUND invites artists to explore, delve into and embody the creative methodologies developed by Far From The Norm and Artistic Director Botis Seva.
NORMGROUND was created to address the lack of development opportunities for Street dance artists pursuing performance careers. We saw the need for a distinct space where our dance language could exist without dilution, we believe many creatives continue to face the same barrier.
Under the guidance of Artistic Director Botis Seva and Creative Associates Jordan Douglas and Victoria Shulungu, NORMGROUND is a progressive training space. Participants move from foundational drills (developing strength, trust, and endurance) into complex choreographic tasks, creative challenges, freestyle, and game-based learning, combining solo, partner, and group work.
To date, we have engaged 17 artists across the last two editions in the UK and Europe, and aim to support a further 24 artists through the forthcoming 2026 and 2027 editions.
NORMGROUND’s legacy is rooted in its sustained impact on artists’ professional development, driven by a clear commitment to building confidence, strengthening skills, and enabling artists to translate creative ideas into practice.
NORMGROUND has been supported by Abderrahim Crickmay Charitable Settlement, Jerwood Foundation, Lowry, Theater Rotterdam. The Linbury Trust.
“NORMGROUND has really changed the way I feel about myself both as a dancer and an artist for the better.”
